Tell us all about your wedding theme and colour scheme...
I’m a floaty bohemian hippy at heart and Andrew’s more city vibes so we wanted to combine the two styles. I wanted neutral colours but Andrew likes a pop of colour and I love the copper tones in the bouquet, bridesmaids & Andrews suit – we wanted to tie some of Andrew's Scottish heritage in with the tartan style suit as well – he wouldn’t wear a kilt much to my disappointment!
What was your favourite part of the day?
When I finally got to the end of the aisle, months of changes & restrictions, stress and upset due to covid but I saw Andrews face at the end of the aisle, he cried when he saw me, said wow and went for my hand for comfort and we didn’t let go the whole time – nothing else mattered in that moment and everything I’d been worrying over, just didn’t matter.
How did you choose your venue?
We went to Edinburgh by chance on an anniversary trip to Glasgow and we saw a couple who had just got married in the city, they were just walking round on their own taking photos and they looked so in love and it looked so intimate and simple, just about them two being in love. I did a bit of research of where to get married in the city and found city chambers.
What was the most emotional moment of the day?
My mum not being there – she passed away a couple of years ago, one of the reasons I wanted a smaller, more intimate, less fussy day. We all raised a glass to Pam & she was with me in so many ways through the day.
Advice for future brides…
Don’t worry about the little things, we had to sacrifice so many traditional parts of our day so we could go ahead during covid, no pretty table décor, no cake, no band or entertainment or fireworks & we had the most amazing day, so intimate, special & as you can see from the photos everyone just smiled & laughed all day long & really brought everyone together after over a year being isolated. It’s about you two in the end. Also try to have 5 minutes on your own together afterwards just to take it all in, everyone says it but it goes so fast – I felt like I was in a magical bubble!
What was your favourite wedding purchase?
After my dress – the “wife of the party” denim jacket from For the love of pearls. Andrew’s a DJ so I knew he’d love that he was implied to be “the party”.
Tell us all about the dress and dress shopping…
I’ve had my dream dress in my head for years – my idol is Stevie Nicks and I wanted something really bohemian and floaty with the sleeves & buttons. I had my dress made in such a short time due to covid and not being able to have fittings until two weeks before the date. It was perfect, exactly how I dreamed it to be. I didn’t go to any bridal shops to try on other styles, I knew exactly what I wanted.
Tell us all about your wedding cake...
We couldn’t have one but we’ll be having a pork pie cake when we have our celebration – we love pie!
What food did you have at your wedding?
Pizzas and burgers from Cold town house – this is so us! We had a three-course steak meal booked in a private dining room but due to covid, this was cancelled and we had to find somewhere outside for our meal so we could drink alcohol! We ended up with the perfect place for us – we love pizza and burgers and they were AMAZING! Our guests said it was the best wedding food they’d had!
What was the funniest moment of the day?
My dads speech – he’s renowned for his jokes and sense of humour so he started off saying he wasn’t going to say much, he pulled a piece of paper out & he’d taped a load of paper together to drop down (see photos) so funny, everyone loved it.
Favourite wedding supplier: Sinead Firman photography and One fare day vintage taxi. We had really limited time on the wedding day to get the photos we wanted – Sinead and Gillian got together & planned some spots for us, in the rain, Gillian whizzing us round the streets of Edinburgh from place to place, running around for these shots – they were both amazing. We then booked Sinead for another shoot a few days after to get the hill top and woodland shots we wanted and she couldn’t have been more accommodating and helpful – she rocks!
Is there anything you wish you'd done differently?
I thought because of Covid & things we had to change, I’d have loads for this question but I don’t. The feeling of the day, the love & laughter, the relaxed intimate vibe, the food & how the day was captured in our photos was exactly what we wanted for our day.
What was the worst wedding planning moment?
Having to postpone for a year was bad enough, but we found out a few days before we couldn’t have the room we’d had booked for so long due to numbers and social distancing, but we weren’t advised of this, so we had to ask two of our guests to wait outside for the ceremony on the day!
Tell us about your first dance...
We completely winged our first dance (after plenty of celebration drinks), back in our apartment, with a few friends, I had my bride pyjamas on & it was just as special. Our song was Paulo Nutini – Better man. We were together a few years ago & split due to not being the right time & Andrew listened to this song a lot after we split, the words are really fitting to where we were at the time and how he wanted to be a “better man” before us finding our way back to each other. We are having a celebration with our other family & friends as soon as we can so we’ll have a first dance with everyone there.
Tell us about your wedding favours...
We made a personalized gift bag for each guest. We included some confetti with our names & wedding date on, a drink for after the ceremony for the walk to Cold Town House, a packet of shortbread (being in Scotland) a personalized face mask & my favourite thing was some seeds for guests to plant in memory of my mum who couldn’t be with us on the day so everyone could look at them as they grow & think of my mum & our special day.
Tell us about your honeymoon...
We had a little minimoon in Fife the week after the wedding. We should have been going to Bali in June but for obvious reasons, that’s not happening now but our plan was always to spend less on the wedding so we could have an amazing honeymoon so as soon as we can – we’ll be off!
