After postponing their September 2020 wedding, Adam and Ellie will finally be tying the knot in Canterbury this September. The couple chose to have a pre wedding shoot to get a bit of practice being behind the camera, ready for their big day, and the decision did not disappoint as their photos are absolutely beautiful. Bride to Be, Ellie, tells us all about their experience, and we get a sneak peek into the plans for their English Country/Boho, meets pastel chic funfair wedding...
Why did you decide to have a pre-wedding shoot?
We rarely have our photo taken together so wanted to get some practice in before the day as one of us always seems to have our eyes shut in every photo taken together. We were both dreading the day in case it was awkward but it was so much fun actually spending time with your other half without being on your phone and actually just focusing on one another. We got in the car after the shoot and Adam even said he had so much fun, which was surprising to me.
How did you meet and how long have you been together?
We have been together for 5 years we met in Greece, while working out there one summer in between our first and 2nd years of university. We lived at opposite ends of the country, I am originally from Billericay, Essex and Adam is from Leicester but we went to uni in Southampton and Nottingham but we made long distance work and he proposed in my final year of university.
Tell us your proposal story…
We went on our dream trip to Disney World Florida, me, Adam and his family. I haven’t been there since I was 4 years old with my family which I strangely can remember. When we went when I was 4 I was too young to swim with the dolphins so the one thing I wanted to do going back was to go discovery cove and swim with them... Little did I know Adam had other plans, at the end of our private swim the instructor told me the Dolphin would bring me a toy for us to play with them, but it was a buoy with ‘Ellie, Will you marry me?’ I was caught so off guard nothing else came out but no (which I didn’t mean).. We have an entire video on my instagram and the full video is linked here.
Why did you choose the shoot location?
We didn’t know where we wanted to shoot so we asked our photographer for suggestions, they suggested 4 places and we chose bradgate park because we had been there before as Adam is originally from Leicteser, and knew the area. We aren’t getting married in either of our home towns and because Adam has basically given up his life to move down south we thought it would be nice to do it in his home town.
Did you find the shoot helpful for helping you feel more prepared for the wedding day?
100% I would recommend a pre-wedding or engagement shoot to everyone! It has made us relax for the day as we were both quite anxious that the photos will be awkward but we feel so excited about it, excited to spend that time together when we do our couple shots and cant wait to see Tina & Izzy again as they were just a delight to be around.
Did you feel nervous behind the camera?
At the beginning we was but our photographers made us feel so comfortable. They just spoke to us, asked us some questions and as we were chatting they snapped away! When we got the album back some of the shots we just couldn’t remember them being taken.
Would you recommend that other couples have an engagement shoot?
100% best thing we have done! I also had my make up trial done on the day by @stevierosebeauty which gave me a really good idea on how it would photograph and also last on the day.
Did your photographer give you any tips before the shoot?
They advised shoot locations, outfit options like colours and what not to wear.
What advice would you give to other couples who do plan to have a pre-wedding shoot?
Not to stress too much about your outfits. I had no clue what to wear and ordered my dress last minute but it ended up photographing really well.
What is your favourite photo from the shoot?
All of them! I can’t choose!
Were there any stand out moments in the shoot?
Adam trying to be a ‘joker’ he spent the entire shoot trying to make Tina & Izzy laugh.
Tell us about your wedding plans...
English Country, Boho, meets pastel chic funfair? If that is even a thing! Pastels, Sage, Blush, Navy colour scheme. We have invited 120 all day guests and decided not to have evening guests as we didn’t want to say hello to all our day guests then spend the entire evening doing the same with our evening guests. I want to be able to enjoy the day once I have done all our hellos.
Do you plan to incorporate any of the photos into your wedding?
We are going to print and frame them and decorate the venue and dot them around.
What are you most looking forward to about the wedding date?
FINALLY GETTING MARRIED. I think the day will be really emotional as it will finally be here after so long. We have been engaged longer than we were bf/gf and we feel like our life has been put on hold for a while. I can’t wait to see Adam in his suit as I love his suit so much!
What has been your favourite part of wedding planning so far?
My bridal Instagram having community to go to for advice or speak to (You can follow Ellie's bridal instagram @miss2mrs!). Also our food tasting was so special. It was completely private with our chefs and we took both our parents. It was so special to spend this time altogether and select the menu together.
