Katy and Tom held their luxurious summer wedding back in 2019 at the gorgeous Hazel Gap Barn, this venue was the perfect fit for their dream rustic wedding. Katy made a beautiful bride, and stunned in a custom made Suzanne Neville gown paired her something blue; a pair of charlotte mills shoes. We all love a good wedding DIY, and Katy chose to design their wedding invitations, in doing this her amazing business @doveandlace was born! The now Mrs Scott tells us all about their perfect day...
What kind of ceremony did you have?
We had a very non-traditional wedding, as we had a celebrant! She was fantastic and it gave us the flexibility to make it so personal, including writing our own vows.
What was your favourite part of the day?
Strangely enough, the ceremony (which I was dreading – Katy), but it turned out to be the most amazing part. When I stepped out to walk down the aisle, the whole room erupted into applause and cheers, which relaxed me straight away
What was the most emotional moment of the day?
Seeing each other at the end of the aisle, hearing each others vows for the first time and generally just becoming husband and wife. We’d been together for 10 years, so it was just the highlight of our relationship!
Any advice for future brides…
It’s your wedding day! You do what you want and have exactly what you want. Don’t be easily influenced by other people’s opinions.
Did you make any Wedding DIYs?
Did you have have anything unusual at your wedding?
Our dog, Reggie, the Golden Retriever walked down the aisle with one of the bridesmaids!
What food did you have at your wedding?
A big slap-up BBQ, put on wooden platters in the middle of each guest table. We felt this was a great ice breaker!
How did you choose your venue?
We knew we wanted rustic and nothing traditional, so we visited a few barn conversions, but Hazel Gap just blew us away! It’s just breathtaking and they have everything nailed, from the food, to the managing of the day… everything was perfect!
Best wedding splurge:
My dress! I must admit, I went a bit OTT on the dress and had a custom-made Suzanne Neville gown. But I don’t regret it one bit, because it is just incredible!
Anything you wish you'd done differently:
We were generally very happy with our suppliers, but do your own research as well as taking people’s recommendations and don’t let the cheapest option win in every instance. Your tastes may be different to other peoples, so just do your own research.
Worst wedding planning moment:
The day before the wedding, I was stressed for some daft reason and I drove all the way to the hotel we were staying at and realised I’d driven in my slippers, so I had no shoes with me!
What was your first dance song?
Silver Lining by Jacob Banks. We just loved the lyrics and felt like it really reflected our relationship, even though it’s not a well known song. We absolutely winged our first dance and it went surprisingly well! Even Tom did a few twirls!
Tell us all about your Honeymoon...
We had 16 days in beautiful Bali where we travelled to three different locations. We went from living like Bear Grylls to living like a King and Queen to get the full experience of what Bali had to offer.
Top money saving tip:
Ask friends/relatives for help and to use their skills where you can. Our relative made our cake and didn’t charge us, so that saved around £500!
