After postponing their wedding, Jilly and Billy wanted something to look forward too and something positive to remember of what would have been their wedding month, which is why the opted for a pre wedding shoot. They chose this location as it was somewhere they knew well, and they could act entirely natural and relaxed which really resonates in their beautiful photos. The soon to be Mrs McGechie tells us all about their shoot, and gives some great advice for couples that havent yet had theirs.

Why did you decide to have a pre-wedding shoot?

After postponing our wedding I wanted something to look forward to and something look back on with a happy memory and these pictures do exactly that. I often find myself flicking through them remembering what a laugh we had doing the shoot. And I love sharing them with our family and on social media.

How did you meet and how long have you been together?

We are a Tinder success story we swiped right back in January 2014 and the rest is history! We couldn’t believe we had never met before as Dundee doesn’t have that many bars and clubs so I have no doubt we must have brushed shoulders at some point but it was good old Tinder that brought us together. I couldn’t resist the picture of handsome stranger in swimming trunks with the 6 pack!!

Tell us your proposal story:

We picked my ring together in November 2017 so I was expecting it to happen any time after then….but no, I had to wait until May 2019 until he asked me but it was worth the wait! It might not sound special to anyone else but he picked me up after work on Tuesday and as planned we went for a walk at the Pentlands with our miniature dachshund Lynx. We stopped at the view point and I asked him to take a picture of me with Lynx as the sun was setting. He told me to turn round and look into the distance so here I am thinking “Oh great he is getting good at taking insta worthy photos!” he said “that’s great got it” and when I turned round he was down on one knee and asked me to marry him, I love that he did it somewhere that we both love and can visit often.

Why did you choose the shoot location?

As much as we love hill walking we also love the beach and Gullane beach is so pretty and normally pretty quiet, I felt that we could be more natural with less people around and the sand between our toes.

Did you find the shoot helpful for helping you feel more prepared for the wedding day?

Very much so, my fiancĂ© is not a fan of being in front of the camera so the more practice the better I say. It gives you a chance to bond with the photographer which helps you relax and look more natural in your photos

Did you feel nervous behind the camera?

At first yes as there were a few people about but as soon as we got into it we didn’t even feel like we were being photographed.

Would you recommend that other couples have an engagement shoot?
Is it necessary? No. Would I recommend it 100% yes. It’s a lot of fun and you can use the photos as your save the dates or invitations.

Did your photographer give you any tips before the shoot?

Yes, she gave us advice of what colours of clothing would compliment one another which was really good as its not something I would have thought about, I know she would have been able to suggest some good locations but luckily she loved our choice so we didn’t need explore any other options.

What advice would you give to other couples who do plan to have a pre-wedding shoot?

Choose a location that you like and have been to several times. Have fun with it and don’t take yourself too seriously. Also, before your shoot make sure your nails are on point! Your photographer will want to take a pic or two of your ring so nice nails are essential!!

What is your favourite photo from the shoot?

Hard question but I would have to pick the one where we are sitting out on the rocks and we were kicking the water. I just remember laughing so hard and the water being so cold!

Were there any stand out moments in the shoot?

There is a photo of me with my head tilted back laughing and I remember why I was laughing so much, Marta our photographer was asking us questions to get to know us and help us relax and she asked Billy what his favourite thing about me was and he replied “her bum” I was mortified!! But she found it funny so we all had a laugh about it!

Tell us about your wedding plans...

Clean and Classic. I am having lots of candles, lots of white flowers with green foliage with a pop of pale pink. I would love to still have a big wedding as we have big families but it might be a lot more intimate now. Our Venue is a stunning house in Fife and we fell in love with it the moment we saw the ballroom! Its really something special.

Do you plan to incorporate any of the photos into your wedding?

Yes! We plan to decorate one of the fire places with some of our favourite photos from the shoot. And we have also used them for our save the dates.

What are you most looking forward to about the wedding date?

I cannot pick just one thing: I am really looking forward to spending the morning with the girls, my mum and sister. I cannot wait for my dad to see me in my dress. I cannot wait to walk up the isle hand in hand with my husband and seeing all my friends and family enjoying themselves.

What has been your favourite part of wedding planning so far?

It has to be dress shopping, it was a really magical day with my bridesmaids, my mum and my fiancĂ©’s mum.
