How having a Micro wedding can mean more, rather than less! - The Smiths & Co

Saturday, April 17, 2021

This post is brought to you by Olivia, one half of modern wedding photography and videography married duo The Smiths and Co est. 2017.

2020 has changed the way we look at and plan weddings, eloping and micro wedding’s were not a popular option for couples prior to Covid. We have all had to adapt and change our outlook on weddings as a whole. As Photographers and Videographers, we started to look at the positives of smaller weddings and intimate ceremonies and after getting to shoot a few last year we have experienced the many perks that a micro wedding can offer.

Less stress and pressure

Planning a wedding can often be a very stressful experience for many reason’s, there are so many people to organise and cater for, so many people to please, deciding who to invite and feeling the pressure to have an incredible Instagram worthy day.

Although covid has added a lot of stress and pressure to thousands of couples, having a 30 or less person wedding can reduce the pressure. The wedding becomes more about your marriage and the people involved are your closest friends and family members so the occasion is so special and intimate.

More money for the things you really want!

We all know weddings are costly, but the smaller the wedding the more your going to save. But smaller doesn’t have to mean less you can spend more money on the things that you really want, you can still have a beautiful wedding and potentially have the wedding you have always dreamed of but didn’t think was possible.

You could choose your dream location or your dream venue, more money for amazing food and cocktails or more money to put towards your dream photographer. More budget to splash out on loads of incredible flowers or an amazing ceremony backdrop. Did you really want a wedding video but didn’t have the budget for it? Regardless of what it is, you are able to put a little bit more money toward the things that really matter to you, without completely breaking the bank.⠀⠀

It doesn’t need to be a compromise

Having a mico wedding or an elopement means you create a more personal wedding that is special to you and your partner. Often we hear of people having to compromise their wedding plans due to family, financial pressure and trying to please everyone other than themselves.

Cutting down your guest list might seem like the last thing you want to do but trust me seating plans are a nightmare, you can save yourself the stress of family politics and inviting distant relatives and not compromising your dream wedding.

Location Location Location!

Less people mean’s you have more freedom in choosing a location because there’s not as much to organise. Have you always dreamed of having a destination wedding? Getting married in an exoitc location, on the beach or the top of a mountain. Or how about a NYC city wedding or paris? Having an elopement or a micro wedding makes these options way more available.

Book your dream location and then turn your wedding location into your honeymoon destination. There are so many options and lots of ways to have that dream destination wedding without costing a fortune.

There are so many options when it comes to a micro wedding so don’t view it as less view it as more! Of course this isn’t the option for everyone and there are many couples who have always dreamed of a large wedding with all their friends and family and that is completely fine!

But if you are super stressed, struggling to plan a 100+ person wedding in the current situation then maybe a smaller wedding is the way forward for you.
