Demi and Jack were wed back in June 2019 with a ceremony at their local registry office followed by a wedding breakfast. Their order of the day was different to the usual as later in the evening they then had a second ceremony with their wedding parties involved and a live singer, followed by their party. They opted for a Rustic theme with lots of DIYs and held their beautiful celebration at their family farmhouse. The now Mrs Longman tells us all about their special day...
Tell us a bit about how the day we went...
We got officially married at the registry office in the morning, then at 4pm (after the wedding breakfast) we had our second ceremony. This happened with the bridesmaids all walking down the aisle again and Jack & I being introduced. Then we had speeches and a live singer (who is one of our close friends), then the party began at 7pm!
Tell us all about the proposal...
It was around Christmas time, Jack took me up to a new vegetarian restaurant that he had discovered and we had a beautiful meal. We then decided to go to our favourite bar in Hackney so Jack made me get off the train at Bethnal Green station and made me walk through Victoria Park. Now I was moaning at this point because I was wearing tights, a skirt and heeled boots… The skirt was riding up, tights were falling down and my feet were killing! But it was perfectly timed, we took a walk through Victoria Park in London, the sun was setting and when we reached the band stand, Jack proposed and it was a beautiful setting!
How and why you chose your wedding theme?
We knew we were having a garden, rustic DIY style wedding so we wanted to keep things summery and light. Jack chose a couple of colours that he liked, as did I. We then went to Homebase (haha) and got tonnes of paint sample sheets and put together different colours that we thought would work well together. We ended up going with a blush pink, creams, various shades of green (to blend in with the garden), peach/light orange.
Any advice for future brides?
Take advice from others, but never make decisions because other people have told you to. Do not feel guilted into making decisions, buying certain things or changing the structure or parts of your day. It sounds harsh, but in my experience, so many people tried to make my day about themselves and I listened and paid too much attention, I wish I politely stood my ground.
What was the most emotional moment of the day?
When the Father, Daughter dance came on! When I was young my dad told my mum that Father Figure by George Michael was his song to me. He didn’t know that I knew that, so when it came to our dance, it started playing and he burst into tears (happy tears). It was so lovely!
Tell us all about your wedding cake...
We actually got our three tiered, naked wedding cake from Marks and Spencer! We were going for a rustic look and decided to decorate the cake ourselves with ivy and fresh fruit! My mother in laws best friend got us a beautiful personalised cake topper to finish it off!
What food did you have at your wedding?
We were able to order from our FAVOURITE, family run, local italian - The Bel-Sit Pizzeria in South Woodford. We adore the food, Jack and his family always visited the restaurant when they were children and we still go there regularly. The food is just beautiful and we were so honoured that they catered for our wedding day!
Were there any surprises on the day?
We had our aunt and uncle’s dog at the wedding who we love so much, during the speeches, she walked up to where they were taking place and did a huge poo in the middle of the best man speech!!! It was hilarious.
Tell us about your Honeymoon...
We asked for money towards our honeymoon instead of gifts and we were blown away by our guests generosity! We were able to book our honeymoon to Riveria Maya in Mexico. What a holiday!! It was an adult only, all inclusive resort and it was out of this world. We were spoilt by beautiful scenery, food and treats! We would love to go back.
What did you do for your hen do?
My wonderful sister and best friend booked a surprise holiday to Marbella! I was so happy that they did that for me. We had such a good time, beautiful weather, beautiful villa and some hilarious moments!
Wedding must-have:
A pair of slippers girls! Or flat shoes!! My heels killed me half way through the day and I left my slippers at home! Big mistake!
