Deborah and Greg got married just a few days before Scotland's second national lockdown with just 15 guests after postponing their original Autumn wedding date. They chose a green colour scheme with lots of foliage which was perfect for the time of year. Beautiful bride Deborah made lots of wedding DIYs, including painting her own leather jacket! Scroll to see more photos of their special day, including the guest appearance from their gorgeous dog Rolo.

Tell us about your wedding theme...

Our wedding theme was winter and our colour was green. We were originally booked in for an Autumn wedding and I’ve always loved the colour green so it matched perfectly, even more so when we moved our date to December, with it being so close to Christmas green was perfect.

  • Something Old: My Grannie’s ring
  • Something New: Tiffanys pearl earrings
  • Something Borrowed: My Dad’s wedding ring
  • Something Blue: My garter

How did you choose your venue?

We had to pick somewhere close by due to my Dads condition and with the COVID tier system in Scotland we thought best to stay local. Meldrum House is the most idyllic & cosy countryside House Hotel, with the fires burning and the Christmas trees it was perfect for our winter wedding.

Tell us about the ceremony...

We had a humanist wedding ceremony as it is more personal to us. My sister did a reading called ‘Marriage is being in love for the rest of your life’ by Chris Ardis

Music

  • Bridal entrance: Violin cover of Elvis Presley ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’
  • Ceremony Songs: Violin cover of Ed sheering ‘Photograph’
  • Processional: Toploader ‘Dancing in the Moonlight’
  • First Dance: James Arthur ‘Falling Like the Stars’
  • Father Daughter Dance: George Bensen ‘The Greatest Love of All’

What was your favourite part of the day?

My favourite part of the day was getting our couple pictures taken. We were on such a high after getting married, we walked around Meldrum house with the biggest smiles getting our pictures taken whilst chatting to each other and enjoying OUR time of the day.

Tell us all about the dress...

Luckily lockdown had eased and I was able to take my sister and mum to try on dresses. As we had to reschedule our wedding within 6 weeks I was worried I wouldn’t find the dress of my dreams off the rack, how wrong I was. The ladies at Elmar Bridal Collections in Peterhead were the nicest and helped me so much. My dress was the 4th I tried on and I just knew, it elegant, slightly off the shoulder, satin material with a little bit of bling and it had POCKETS (my dream since I got engaged). My dress was simple and just me, when the lady pulled the curtain back I burst into tears along with my sister and my mum.

Did you make any Wedding DIYs?

I painted my own leather jacket, created the table plan and my friend painted our wedding signs!

Advice for future brides…

Forget about the wedding and hundreds of guests, it's about the marriage and your closest friends and family.

Top money saving tip: Cut your number of guests haha!

Favourite celebrity bride: Victoria Mcgrath (@inthefrow)

Favourite wedding supplier: Nicola Stewart as she took the most amazing photographs!

Tell us about your wedding favours...

Greg & I made sloe gin ourselves back in September so we decanted it into little bottles for our guests to enjoy.

Were there any surprises on the day?

My sister and her husband organized our friends and family that couldn’t be there to record messages which we were shown after our meal ‘cue more tears’.

Tell us about the cake...

We had a two tiered semi naked cake with gold dripping. The bottom tier was raspberry & white chocolate and the top tier was red velvet. Being a cake lover I can confirm it was absolutely delicious.

What was the most emotional moment of the day?

The most emotional moment of the day was my father/daughter dance, after finding out my dad was terminally ill last year it is a moment I will never forget and cherish forever.

What was your first dance song?

James Arthur ‘Falling Like the Stars’ – it was released the month we got engaged and the lyrics are so lovely.
