Hannah and Damien met through Instagram and are now planning for their 3rd wedding date, 10th October 2021, after they postponed from 11th October 2020 and 11th March 2021. They are tying the knit at their local church, followed by a reception at The Walled Garden. The future Mrs Buxton tells us all about their proposal story and their upcoming wedding plans. Follow their wedding planning journey on Instagram @thebuxtonwedding.

Why did you decide to have a pre-wedding shoot?

After speaking to our photographer about how nervous we were for our wedding photos as we hate photos of ourselves, he suggested a pre-wedding shoot would help us connect with him as a photographer and also get some practice in before the big day to help us feel more at ease! It’s also so special to have beautiful photos of us to look back on for years to come as part of our wedding journey.

How did you meet and how long have you been together?

We started talking through Instagram, and then met in person a few weeks later for our first date. We became official on 21st December 2017 and we moved in together about a month later! We have been together now almost 3 years.

Tell us your proposal story...

We were due to go on holiday to Cornwall and stay in the most beautiful secluded place. This wasn’t out of the ordinary as we love special places to go and stay. We’d had it booked for months so I never expected Damien to propose there!

On our first day we got there and it was due to be the only sunny day of our whole holiday (Damien jokes this forced his hand to do it on that day!)

After a 5 hour car journey we arrived and I did my usual “take pictures of the place we’re staying before we mess it up” – Little did I know at that time Damien was scrambling around in the car into a secret compartment he had found and was getting the ring in his pocket ready!

He suggested we go for a walk. We walked through all the dunes until we got onto a sandy cliff top overlooking the whole bay and sea. There was no-one around and the sun was shining with wind blowing.

We set up our tripod to take some pictures of us because the scenery was beautiful. Damien then ran to the camera, hit record (unbeknown to me!) and then came back to the cliff edge, held my hands, said the most beautiful words and dropped down on one knee.

It was beyond perfect and I’m so glad he got pictures and video of the exact moment I said YES!

Why did you choose the shoot location?

Damien grew up near Rufford and has spent many childhood years there. It’s also somewhere we love walking together!

Did you find the shoot helpful for helping you feel more prepared for the wedding day?

Definitely. I now cannot wait to have our beautiful wedding pictures!!

Did you feel nervous behind the camera?

Yes at the start we just didn’t know what to expect. But within minutes we felt comfortable and at ease. From that moment we loved every second of it!

Would you recommend that other couples have an engagement shoot?

I would 100% recommend to anybody. It’s a great experience and allows you to just be yourselves, have some fun, get used to the camera and have some gorgeous photos to treasure afterwards!

Did your photographer give you any tips before the shoot?

Our photographer has a whole segment on his website about Connection Shoots and how to get the most out of them. We found it so helpful and it made our experience much easier!

What advice would you give to other couples who do plan to have a pre-wedding shoot?

Enjoy every second of it and let yourselves just be you. Don’t force poses or overthink how you look. Just have fun!

What is your favourite photo from the shoot?

I would say one of my favourite photos is actually the one of Damien doing up my shoe. I did the typical girl thing and went for style over comfort so my feet were killing after a few minutes. Damien bless him changed me in and out of shoes between every scene. This was also the first shot of the day and was just our photographer having a laugh at it initially – But it turned out great. It shows what a true gent Damien is!

Were there any stand out moments in the shoot?

We loved it all. But I think as soon as we settled in and that excitement kicked in we just spent the whole day laughing and joking!

Tell us all about your wedding plans...

We’re having a fairly intimate wedding. Our theme is grey and white with a hint of blush pink. There’ll be lots of greenery and foliage involved. Really neutral, whimsical and pretty! Our reception venue is a marquee in its own private walled garden which just reminds me of Alice In Wonderland. It’s magical and so different!

Do you plan to incorporate any of the photos into your wedding?

We’re ordering ourselves a photobook with all these photos in to display at the wedding, and we’ll also probably put them in polaroid format and scatter them around the venue too!

What are you most looking forward to about the wedding date?

It FINALLY happening! Haha. All jokes aside, this year obviously hasn’t been the year we expected it to be and after postponing our wedding it made us realise even more than before that we just can’t wait to start our happily ever after and spend a lifetime together as husband and wife.

What has been your favourite part of wedding planning so far?

All of it! I think a highlight would definitely be finding my dress because it’s just one of those moments that you dream about forever and felt so surreal when it happened! But genuinely I’ve loved every minute of wedding planning.
