Deepika and Joshua had their engagement shoot at Dyke Nature reserve. It was the perfect location with a combination of both beach and forest areas, the best of both worlds! The future Mrs Bray tells us all about their romantic proposal story, they got engaged in the same place they first said I love you, how romantic! We also hear all about their wedding plans, and how they intend to incorporate both Indian and English traditions!

Why did you decide to have a pre-wedding shoot?

To celebrate our engagement, build an album of photos and use some at the wedding

How did you meet and how long have you been together?

We met through a mutual friend 2.5 years ago, then became a couple on 5th July 2019, we promptly got engaged on 11th March 2020

Tell us your proposal story...

Joshua took me to the Yorkshire Sculpture park on one of our first official dates, we had a long walk around and back then, it was the first place we both said those three words, I love you, to one another and shared such a magical moment, if im honest, the first date we sat and had a coffee and I felt like everyone around us didn’t exist! We were both so into one another it made the world disappear, so then on the 11th march 2020 joshua decided we should walk our puppy around the sculpture park and the weather wasn’t great, and id had a mental day at work so I felt super overwhelmed, but he calmed me down and we were having a lovely walk, got to the top of the hill at the bench where he first said he loved me and he suggested siting for a while and then began to tell me how much he loved me, got down on one knee and popped the question! It was so unexpected but felt so right and perfect! Wouldn’t have had it any other way!

(secret note, josh actually wanted to propose at our upcoming trip to India, but once he bought the ring and showed our families he just couldn’t wait! And I’m glad he didn’t because COVID canceled our trip!)

Why did you choose the shoot location?

It was very much a suggestion of our amazing photographer Imogen, I really wanted something on a beach with waves and nice vibes, whereas josh wanted somewhere forestry as we are fond hikers, so Imogen suggested Danes Dyke Nature reserve which was the perfect mixture of both forest and beach!

Did you find the shoot helpful for helping you feel more prepared for the wedding day?

Absolutely, it got us used to some of the ways we could pose, got us better acquainted with our photographer and I would definitely recommend every couple have an engagement shoot, plus the photos are a beautiful addition in our home and we have also built an engagement photo album from this for us to share with our families when they come around!

Did you feel nervous behind the camera?

Not at all! Joshua and I go hiking a lot and so we are used to taking photos with one another and of one another, so it was quite easy for us!

Would you recommend that other couples have an engagement shoot or do you feel it is not necessary?

Absolutely, it gets you used to the photographer, how to be in pictures, how your makeup will look on professional photography, I learned a lot from the shoot! And can’t wait till we have the wedding and get the photos from that! I enjoyed it so much that a few months after the wedding we plan to have a family shoot with Imogen where we can also include our dog!

Did your photographer give you any tips before the shoot?

Yes, she directed us well and told us where to walk, sometimes how to pose, but took very natural photos of us just being us, and in love, and dancing around which was my favorite part! She also incorporated some shots Joshua and I had said we wanted to do!

What advice would you give to other couples who do plan to have a pre-wedding shoot?

Make sure your happy with your hair and makeup, maybe make a Pinterest board of shots that you’d like to incorporate into the shoot so your photographer knows what you like and also just be comfortable, relax and be you!

What is your favourite thing about the shoot?

The amazing photos of us both that we have and also getting to know Imogen and her photography style! I love her work so much I’ve recommended her to everyone!

Were there any stand out moments in the shoot?

Definitely dancing in the cold English sea! It was so cold but so worth it for the beautiful pictures, also the fact that my photos look like they’ve been taken somewhere abroad and beautiful! I’ve had so many people asking where we went cause the photos look so amazing!

Tell us about your wedding plans...

We are having two weddings, as I am Indian and my fiancé is English. So we are having an Indian wedding and an English wedding, then one big reception to incorporate both weddings, I have two outfits, but my colour theme is still the same throughout, navy blue and blush pink. The Indian wedding will be indoors and the English ceremony will be outdoors, barefooted, very cute and whimsical with a rustic vibe and feel to it. The reception will be a bit bigger with an incorporation of both Indian and English wedding vibes.

Do you plan to incorporate any of the photos into your wedding?

Yes! I plan to use them on the tables as polaroid photos at the reception for people to write us well wishes on and then pop them in a box with words of advice for us to read after the wedding

What are you most looking forward to about the wedding date?

Being MRS BRAY finally! Haha, definitely getting married to my best friend, if anyone ever asks me how to know when someone is meant to be for you, id always say, that person has to be your best friend, the one person you want to share absolutely everything with and I couldn’t imagine having anyone else but Joshua, so I cant wait to marry him and celebrate our future with our friends and family.

What has been your favourite part of wedding planning so far?

Dress shopping was my favourite! Although because of COVID! I couldn’t have all my bridesmaids there as I would have liked, I managed to find the most perfect dress! I cried so much! Also I am hand making a lot of my décor, so that’s like a constant excitement which is fun!
