A Wild Elopement Styled Shoot at the Emerald Isle of Ireland

Wednesday, January 13, 2021

This beautiful Irish elopement styled shoot provides some amazing ideas for brides considering eloping in 2021. The rich green colours of the Celtic theme beautifully complements the incredible Irish clifftops and 16th Century Castle. Lily Jones, of Lily Jones Events and Run Wild Elopements tells us all about it the inspiration and styling..

Concept

This shoot was very much inspired by everything we love about Ireland! We used the traditional Celtic colours of emerald green and gold with beautiful crisp white. We carried these colours through the whole wedding. From the groom’s emerald suit with gold tie to the gold embroidered felt flowers in the bouquet and the gold wax seals in the stationery suite. We wanted the wedding to blend in beautifully with the wild landscapes of Ireland and be simple but beautiful.

Inspiration

One of the most romantic places on earth, the Emerald Isle of Ireland is a beautiful elopement destination. With its rolling hills, beautiful landscapes, and breath-taking coastline, it was the perfect destination for our romantic runaway elopement styled shoot.

I am wedding planner and stylist with Run Wild Elopements. Based in the UK, we want to help adventurous couples to realise that they really can get married anywhere their heart desires whether that be on a glacier, the top of a canyon or, like our Emerald Isle shoot, on top of the Cliffs of Moher overlooking the Wild Atlantic Coast!

In September 2020 we travelled across the pond to County Clare, Ireland to create a romantic and breath-taking elopement with a full team of talented suppliers, some UK based and some Ireland based. We had the most amazing time climbing cliffs, embracing the wind and enjoying local Irish hospitality. Our second day was at the amazing Newtown Castle in Ballyvaughn, a 16th Century castle that is steeped in history and is the perfect spot for a small romantic wedding. We hope you enjoy our images as much as we enjoyed creating them.

Stationery

This gorgeous stationery suite was created by White Orchid Print & Design and perfectly captured the luxurious yet rustic feel perfectly. Featuring emerald green dyed ribbons, gold leaf, green tassels and gold wax seals, this suite even included stunning vow books for both the bride and groom.

Dresses

Sam at Ryley & Flynn created two dresses for this shoot. Her designs, fabrics and style are perfect for anyone thinking about eloping. Both dresses were in beautiful satin that caught the wind on the cliffs perfectly, making for amazing images. We were then able to create a more traditional Celtic bridal look at Newtown Castle with a beautiful tulle overskirt and lace top. Sam makes all of her dresses bespoke to her brides so you are guaranteed the perfect dress for your exciting elopement!

The Veil

Having worked with Claire from Tulle & Flo numerous times I just knew that her handmade bespoke veils would be perfect for this shoot! She created a floor length veil that featured cascading hand sewn white and gold leaf flowers. A veil is a must have accessory for any elopement – especially one on the cliffs because when the wind catches it just right, the photos are pure magic!

Hair and Makeup

Hair and makeup on top of the Cliffs of Moher will always prove to be a challenge but through all the elements Sam from SJB Hair & Make Up created these amazing looks! Her styles for the cliff ceremony was even created in the back of a car with no electricity – and that just shows how amazing and professional she is. On the cliffs our bride had a more natural boho look to compliment the natural surroundings but with a beautiful up do to make it stunningly bridal. At Newtown Castle Sam created a more traditional Celtic princess look with a red lip and beautifully defined eyes with cascading curls.

Flowers

Unless you use a local florist when eloping, flowers can always be a difficult dilemma as fresh flowers cannot travel well on a plane! We wanted to show couples thinking about eloping an alternative bouquet idea which travels well so we enlisted the help of Charlotte Laurie Designs. Charlotte creates the most beautiful, intricate embroidered fabric and felt bouquets and they are just exquisite and completely unique! Her bouquet for this shoot was full of emerald green flowers with gold Celtic embroidery designs.

Suppliers

For this shoot we worked with a mixture of UK based and local Ireland based suppliers, which is what would typically happen for a real elopement. It is a great way to work with suppliers in another country that you wouldn’t normally get to work with. For our core team that travelled to Ireland with me, I chose suppliers that’s style fitted with the aesthetic we were trying to create. They are all wedding professionals that I have worked with numerous times before which I meant I knew they were able to bring my vision to life.
