Stuart and Elizabeth had a beautiful romantic wedding with just 18 guests, with an intimate ceremony at Edinburgh Castle. After which they took some gorgeous photos on the royal mile, before heading to their reception at the most festive place in Edinburgh - The Dome. For colours, the couple opted for deep tones and charcoal silk bridesmaid dresses with dark burgundy flowers with lots of foliage.Bride Elizabeth tells us all about their perfect Christmas wedding...

Tell us all about your wedding theme...

We didn’t have a specific theme, however we got married in December so it felt really festive, we chose deep tones, the dark burgundy and charcoal colours suited the time of year perfectly.

How did you choose your venue?

We chose to have a small wedding, there were just 18 of us in total so we knew we wanted somewhere intimate. We already knew about St Margaret’s Chapel at the Castle, it is so unique and quaint, and we felt it was just right for us. As for The Dome, there is nowhere quite as perfect for a Christmas wedding!

Tell us about the ceremony...

We got married in the little Chapel at Edinburgh Castle, we kept the ceremony short and sweet (thank goodness because it was pretty chilly).

What was your favourite wedding purchase?

We can’t think of just one favourite, however my flowers were definitely up there, we are having them preserved so that I can keep them forever. My husband’s suit too, and his beautiful handmade silk tie, which holds sentimental memories.

What was your favourite part of the day?

We slipped away together for some photographs around Edinburgh. We found so many hidden nooks off the Royal Mile, it was beautiful.

Advice for future brides…

Take a moment to just be with each other, take it all in for a second, the day passes by so quickly.

Tell us all about the dress…

I decided that I didn’t want all the fuss of dress shopping. I found my dress in the first shop I visited, it was a Lilian West, I loved it, so I purchased it. I knew I wanted something simple and lace. I think my husband actually spent longer choosing his suit.

Favourite wedding planning moment...

We live in Yorkshire, so we made the most of travelling up to Edinburgh for little ‘wedding planning’ excursions in the run up to the day. We are really missing it this year.

Wedding must-have: An amazing photographer! The pictures you take away with you are moments that you can look back on and cherish forever, our photographers captured the day perfectly.

Did you make any Wedding DIYs?

We made tiny Christmas crackers which doubled up as name places.

What food did you have at your wedding?

We had canapes at the Castle followed by Christmas dinner in the Green Room at the Dome, the food and the service were amazing at both venues.

Tell us about your Honeymoon...

We haven’t managed to go on honeymoon yet, due to the current circumstances we decided to cancel and reschedule for when times are brighter. We would like to explore more of Italy and Croatia, it’s nice to have something to look forward to.

What was your wedding budget – and did you stick to it?

We didn’t have a specific budget, we chose to have a small wedding so that we could celebrate with our nearest and dearest, all we wished was for everyone to really enjoy themselves, eat drink and be merry!
