Louisa and Scott married last year on New Year's Eve at industrial venue WEST on the Green in Glasgow city centre. They opted for a Christmas theme with beautiful dark green, white and gold colour scheme with lots of fairy lights and candles creating a cosy and magical atmosphere. Bride Louisa wore gorgeous bridal seperates with a beautiful feather shawl, with her bridesmaids in green velvet dresses, paired with white fur. Louisa is a teacher by day and cake maker by night and even made her own wedding cake and personalised sugar cookie favours.

Tell us your Proposal Story...

We arrived in Prague late at night and Scott asked if I wanted to go for a walk along the river. We got to Charles Bridge and he said let’s take a selfie with the castle all lit up in the background (knowing I LOVE a selfie). So I start snapping away and Scott was fidgeting, I thought he was fixing his hair and told him to stay still for the photo. Then the castle went out of shot as something was blocking it - I thought it was Scott in the way! Then I realise in the camera that what’s in the way is in fact a ring box! I turned round and he’s down on one knee asking me to marry him. I was so shocked I couldn’t stop laughing until he told me to hurry up because his knee was getting so cold in the snow! The series of selfies captures the confusion, shock and realisation in my eyes perfectly! Which we then used for our Save The Dates - photo booth style!

How did you both meet?

We went to school and uni together and although liked each other nothing ever happened. Scott was then living in Copenhagen and I was over for a long weekend. After a few glasses of Prosecco I remembered I used to go to school with a boy who lived here so messaged him on Facebook for some recommendations. He was sadly back home in Glasgow at the time for a visit, but we kept in touch and then the next time he was home we met up for a chippy and a few drinks... he moved back home for good soon after!

Tell us all about your wedding theme...

I just wanted a Christmassy, wintery feel. I chose dark green velvet dresses for the bridesmaids and then took it from there, with lots of dark green, white and gold. Also lots of pine cones, greenery, flowers, candles and fairy lights. It was pretty laid back but very atmospheric - cosy and magical.

What kind of ceremony did you have?

Humanist wedding, with a hand fasting ceremony and drinking whisky from a quaich. My brother James read “Bob Marley on Love...” Scott’s sister Emma read “Albert Einstein on Relativity”.

Any Wedding DIYs?

Lots! The wedding cake, and wire cake topper. The favours (I made sugar cookies with our names and wedding date on the them, tied up with ribbon in wee individual bags), place names in pine cones, and the candle decorations in the middle of the tables, the polaroid camera station, order of the day painted on crates (my friend Korin made me a stencil for this), my friend Jessie designed all the stationary for me too, the ribbons and pinecones on the chairs down the aisle, the glass cylinders of fairy lights, pine cones and “midnight kisses”.

What was the most emotional moment of the day?

I laughed the whole way through the wedding, from walking down the aisle, to making my speech, to leaving after 2am clutching the remnants of my wedding cake. I got pretty emotional when my sister, Ruthie did her speech. She was the last one to speak and I couldn’t hold it together. From the photos it looks like a lot of people were blubbering wrecks by the end of it too.

Tell us all about the dress...

I bought my Eddy K skirt and top, and also my veil from Melle Cloche in Glasgow.

Tell us all about the cake...

I made my own cake @cakesbykinane, which was a bit of a mad, stressful move in the end. Had a slight breakdown 2 days before, but I was at my mum and dad’s and they kept me calm! It was 4 tiers; Victoria Sponge, Red Velvet, Carrot Cake and Lemon. Decorated semi naked with white buttercream and cream cheese frosting and gold leaf. My friend, Korin and I made the copper wire topper together too and my amazing florist Betty Bluebell decorated it beautifully with flowers. We also had a cheese wedding cake from George Mewes, which was 5 tiers and decorated with festive fruit and greenery and sparklers!

First dance: Arctic Monkeys - I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor

Song you walked down the aisle to: Ludovico Einaudi - I Giorni (played by one of my pupils, Ryan)

Ceremony songs - Can’t Help Falling In Love (piano by Ryan and sang by my cousins Julia & Niamh)

Song for walking back up the aisle as a married couple: Ain’t No Mountain High Enough (sung by Julia & Niamh)

Who were your bride and groom squad?

My maid of honour was my sister Ruthie and my bridesmaid was my sister-in-law Jenny. Scott’s best men were his two good pals Stew and Shorty (Alex).

What was the funniest moment of the day?

I got muddled up when I was saying my vows and called Scott “John Scott” instead of “Scott John”. It was a pretty funny moment and everyone was killing themselves laughing. I was concentrating so hard on saying it right I got confused! Then my dad in his speech said James (my brother) instead of Scott. So when it was Scott’s turn he started with “Hi, so my name is SCOTT for those of you who don’t know...” which was really funny!

Tell us all about your Honeymoon...

No honeymoon due to Covid, (because I am a teacher and we were waiting for the summer holidays so we could go for 3 or 4 weeks) but it was supposed to be travelling around Turkey and then to Greece and island hopping. Maybe one day... we did go on a mini-moon straight afterwards to Krakow for a few days which was lovely!
