It's our final post of 2020 and we are ending the year with Erin and Ben's gorgeous Christmas wedding. They chose a burgundy, navy and blush colour scheme which perfectly complemented the 2019 blush Christmas decorations at Holkham Hall. The bride wore an elegant long-sleeved Sassi Holford gown which was perfect for a winter wedding. Erin tells us all about their special day, from the budget to the honeymoon...

What was your favourite wedding purchase?

My Gucci wedding shoes.

  • Something Old: My mum gave me her mums wedding band and engagement ring the evening before!
  • Something New: White personalised Pjs!
  • Something Borrowed: My sisters bracelet
  • Something Blue: A lovely blue garter!

Were there any surprises on the day?

My wedding gift was a complete surprise. My sister in law passed me over a letter and a box and the letter was from ben, about an A4 page long. It had me in happy tears reading the whole thing. I was then passed the present and when I opened it, to my surprise it was something I had wanted for years. A gorgeous Rolex watch. I was so emotional!

Wedding must-have: Prosecco... to calm the nerves!

How did you choose your venue?

Our friends actually got engaged here on a walk one day. We decided to take a walk ourselves at Holkham and went inside and were just stunned. We enquired almost straight away!

Tell us about your wedding theme...

My wedding theme was actually put on hold for a while. Choosing Holkham as our venue meant that at Christmas it would already be fully decorated, not only with fairy lights and gorgeous giant baubles but also a different colour theme each year. So around November time, Holkham emailed and said that the colour theme in the marble hall was going to be like a blush pink. Which fitted in perfectly with the burgundy red bridesmaid dressed and ties that I chosen. My colours were then burgundy, navy gold and blush pink. It all came together beautifully.

Tell us about the ceremony...

We had a registrar come out to marry us in the Marble Hall. She did a beautiful reading that I chose for my husband and I that I thought represented our relationship and future together.

What was your favourite part of the day?

Walking down the aisle! It was the thing I was most scared about for months leading up. My 3 year old Daughter walked me down the aisle, and when it was our turn she said “come on mummy its our turn now!”

What was the most emotional moment of the day?

Again walking down the aisle. I was a bag of nerves! However the moment I saw Bens face and how happy he was, I just couldn’t stop smiling, especially when our daughter, Penelope spotted her daddy and ran over to him!

Music
  • Song you walked down the aisle to: So I chose to walk down the aisle to a gorgeous piano version of All of me, by John Legend
  • Ceremony Songs: A complete mixture of our favourite songs, played on the piano!
  • Song for walking back up the aisle as a married couple: Elton John - Your Song
  • First Dance: Elvis Presley - Cant help falling in love

Advice for future brides...

Stay calm and really enjoy all the planning. It comes around so fast and before you know it, you’re married! Savour all those moments of meeting the florist and your dress experience!

Is there anything you wish you'd done differently?

Nothing at all. The day was beyond perfect!

What was your wedding budget – and did you stick to it?

Oh we definitely went over budget! Ha! We have such expensive taste, both of us and we just wanted the best of everything as this was our one special day that we won’t have again. It was all completely worth it. I think we budgeted around £25,000. Safe to say we very nearly doubled it!

Favourite wedding supplier: It's got to be Holkham Hall, without providing that place for weddings we wouldn’t have been able to marry somewhere as gorgeous! It was just perfect.

Tell us all about the dress...

So I started shopping for my wedding dress in the January of 2019 to a highly recommended shop in Norwich. They were great! I really struggled though. I'm quite short at 5”2 so I couldn’t find anything that I had dreamed of. I unfortunately settled for a dress 2 weeks after my first appointment at a different store. I did love it at first, but after weeks of looking at it, I realised it wasn’t anything like what I wanted. I had always wanted a long sleeve dress but there wasn’t anything with sleeves! I waited till around August until I went shopping again. I took one of my best friends and picked out 4 gorgeous dresses to try. The 4th one on the rail that I had chosen was a long sleeve dress, so you could say that I saved the best till last. I couldn’t stop smiling the minute I stepped out In it and looked in the mirror, I very nearly cried, it was just perfect. So elegant but I felt sexy and the sleeves were everything! I shopped with Victoria at The Bottom Drawer Bridal Boutique in Kings Lynn. She was fab and really gave me an amazing experience.

Tell us about your Honeymoon...

We flew out to Dubai and had 10 days there. Its one of my favourite places. We had the best time. Better than we could have imagined. We got to spend New Years Eve there, dancing on the beach and watching fire works. It was also our 10 year anniversary together so it was pretty special!

Did you make any Wedding DIYs?

I made all my own flowers for the centre pieces. It was just too much out of our budget for real flowers so I bought all artificial and made them myself.

Tell us about the food...

We had a lovely selection of Olives and breads and a few different starters, mini duck rolls, samosas and mini toad in the holes. For main we had big sharing platters of meats like beef with cheddar mash, garlic mushrooms and fondant potatoes. Dessert again was a complete mixture of wedding cake, chocolate brownie, donuts, and a passionfruit parfait. We also had a lemon and raspberry meringue. We had so many options but we couldn’t chose when we had our taster so we just went for it!

Tell us about your wedding favours...

Our wedding favours were little tiny glass pots of tic tac mints.

What was the funniest moment of the day?
The best man speech was really funny. Hearing stories about a younger Ben on his holidays with friends... you can only imagine!

Tell us about the cake...

We had a 3 tier cake made by the lovely Amber at Love Wedding Cakes. It was navy with lots of gorgeous edible flowers on it that fitted in with the colour theme. Our flavours were, chocolate ganache, baileys and coffee cake and salted caramel. It was delicious!

What was your first dance song?

We chose, Elvis Presley - Cant help falling in love. We are massive Elvis fans and have always loved that song. We also have a frenchie dog that we named Elvis!
