Demi and Justin had their gorgeous autumnal engagement shoot at a pumpkin patch in Oxshott. Ahead of their June 2021 wedding at Sopley Mill, bride to be Demi tells us all about their love story, wedding plans and why she recommends everyone have an engagement shoot!

How did you meet?

We met in high school at the beach, we have been together for 8 years!

Tell us your proposal story...

We got engaged in Wales on a beautiful romantic holiday, it was the second night of our staycation and Justin told me he was planning a picnic for a belated birthday dinner for me (this holiday was booked for my birthday back in April but Lockdown hit) we spent the day exploring around the farms and chilling by the bonfire, then came the evening, justin started setting up for dinner while I went to get ready, he told me not to over dress. At this point I still don’t think anything of it, I walk out and all I see is fairy lights, rose petals, fresh flowers, bonfire, sunset, champagne and lots of food! We sat on the blanket chatting eating our dinner. He then asked if I was ready for my birthday present (I thought I was getting a pandora charm) he told me to stand up and close my eyes which I did. When I opened my eyes he was on one knee, tears running down his face where he asked me to marry him, It took me about 5 minutes to realize what was happening then I instantly jumped on him and burst into tears. There was a lot of laughter, screams and happy tears! It was the most romantic set up and the best night of my life thus far!

Why did you decide to have a pre-wedding shoot?

Being engaged is a really exciting time and you only get to be a fiancé for a short while before you become a wife, we wanted to capture us and where we are in our lives now.

Why did you choose the shoot location?

We did not want a super crowded location. Oxshott offered us a quiet and intimate scenery with beautiful backdrops close to home.

Did you find the shoot helpful for helping you feel more prepared for the wedding day?

Yes absolutely!

Would you recommend that other couples have an engagement shoot?

YES!

Did you feel nervous behind the camera?

Definitely not! We loved every minute of it.

Did your photographer give you any tips before the shoot?

Yes, just told us to be chilled and enjoy it!

What advice would you give to other couples who do plan to have a pre-wedding shoot?

Just enjoy it. Don’t try and be too posed. Let yourself and your love be reflective in your pictures.

Which photo is your favourite?
Way too many too choose, but this one...

Were there any stand out moments in the shoot?

We took a few photos against a tree, the lighting was perfect, everything around us was a blur and it was just us in that moment, it was the best moment of the shoot. To just look in to each others eyes and just be so content.

Do you plan to incorporate any of the photos into your wedding?

YES, I want to print a few of my favorite ones and want to hang them with fairy lights around the room.

Tell us about your wedding plans...

We are having a very traditional church wedding followed by a more boho reception, so we having the best of both worlds. We are having a small wedding of 35 people, mainly family. Before we got engaged we both said we wanted a small intimate wedding, we want it to be all about us on the day. I didn’t want to spend my day worrying about all the guests and making sure everything runs smoothly, I want to spend the day enjoying myself living in the moment. Our church is small and quaint on top of a hill while our reception venue is a few meters away from the church. Our reception is a working Mill house surrounded by aches of farm lands with horses and cows everywhere, how amazing! Colors are neutrals, baby pinks, whites and some eucalyptus for a pop of color!

What are you most looking forward to about the wedding date?

We are having a summer wedding, I am so excited to have our family and friends over from South Africa getting to celebrate our love with us! Im excited for the amount of joy and happiness we are going to feel (if I already am this happy). The closer I get to our wedding date, I get more and more excited to marry my BEST FRIEND.

What has been your favourite part of wedding planning so far?

Looking at all the cool venues in the UK and getting the opportunity to visit new places around our beautiful country while viewing venues.
