On their first anniversary, we are delighted to share Kristy + Scott's wedding! They tied the knot in an intimate ceremony at York Registry Office with just 3 guests, followed by burgers and cocktails at their favourite restaurant! Bride Kristy tells us all about their day, from dress shopping and DIYs to why they chose a small ceremony...
Tell us your proposal story...
We were having a family day out in Arley Hall and gardens when he popped the question. I literally had no idea it was coming and it was a huge shock. The ring was perfect I was so proud of him.
What was your favourite part of the day?
Walking into the room to be married and seeing my husband. I've never seen him look at me the way he did that day and weirdly I've never felt the way I did. I couldn't put the feeling into words but I'm sure anyone who's been married knows what that feeling is.
Why did you choose October?
We really were not at all picky about a date to be honest but we were set on autumn wedding. In my opinion it's the most beautiful time of year. We chose a weekday solely to save money. Anyone having a budget wedding I would really recommend doing so as you can save so much money!
What kind of ceremony did you have?
Nothing fancy and no readings. Just us saying our vows which is what we wanted. We're not big speakers and we're both quite shy. Over and done with in no time at all and little words spoken as possible was perfect for us!
Tell us about your wedding colour scheme...
My colour scheme was blush burgundy and ivory. My flowers were the first thing I purchased (brave I know) but I fell in love, after buying them I logged onto Pinterest and it all come together from there.
What was your Wedding Budget – and did you stick to it?
There was really no budget all we knew is we didn't have a huge amount of time or money. We did it small so I did find it quite easy. We spent around £3000. My wedding dress was a gift from my mum and our honeymoon a gift from my father in law.
What advice would you give to future brides?
It's your day do what makes YOU happy. We had the most low key wedding and we faced misunderstanding and upset but we stuck to our guns as we didn't want a wedding that was influenced by anyone else.
Did you make any wedding DIYs?
I managed to do a few bits...
  • Memory box for ourselves and our daughter
  • Air dry clay decoration for my mum
  • Custom champagne flutes
  • A sign for my daughter to carry
What was the most emotional moment of the day?
Seeing my husband as I walked into the room.
Which is the funniest wedding photograph?
Ice-cream shot!
What was your favourite wedding purchase?
I got some handmade shoe clips made from a small business on instagram (@hdgethitched) I loved them and I'd never seen anything like them before and bonus I can wear them again and again.
Tell us about dress shopping...
My dress was from Elegance Bridal Studio in Barnsley. Julia has her own unique line of wedding dresses fully customisable. There isn't anything she can't do with a wedding dress. The price for the quality was unreal. She offers a 1-1 service and someone's full attention really does help when buying a dress. I would 1000% recommend Julia to anyone.
Tell us all about the food...
We got married on a Wednesday and it was 2-4-1 on cocktails and burgers at Kennedy bar in York. So everyone enjoyed a burger and a cocktail later in the day after quick change of clothes. Beats any wedding buffet I've had!
Tell us all about your wedding cake...
I had a Victoria Sponge with rustic soft icing. It was beautiful to look at. Plain I guess some would say but it definitely didn't taste it. It was perfect.

Who was your favourite wedding supplier?

I love @bespokechick. I found her page a little too late into my wedding planning but i just love her style. I recommend her to everyone. She did us a watercolour picture after our wedding and it was perfect.
What was your worst wedding planning moment?
I found it really stressful explaining to our family and friends we wanted to be married just us two. A wedding is seen as a big family affair and everything we didn't want. The last thing you want to to upset anyone.
Where did you find all of your inspiration?
PINTEREST! Honestly it is the best thing ever invented. I don't think you can plan a wedding without it. It's dangerous I shall warn you but is packed with inspiration. Making a wedding Instagram page helped too. I was inspired by all the other Brides and loved seeing their plans.
