Lowenna and Craig got married in a barn at a Scottish castle filled with lots of colourful decor, such as a pink ombre balloon arch and giant confetti balloons. The bride wore a beautiful boho embellished Needle and Thread gown and her bouquet was made up of beautiful big blooms. And to top it all off, their lovely dog made an appearance...
How did Craig propose?
We were away for the weekend with my parents and Craig asked me to go a walk up a big hill to a castle. I’d asked my mum and dad to come along too but they just kept saying they’d leave it and they’d “have the kettle on for us coming back”. Little did I know, they knew the plan! Craig proposed at the top of the hill just us two – it was lovely!
Tell us about dress shopping...
I actually didn’t go dress shopping and bought my dress online and had it delivered to my parents house! I was absolutely set on a Needle & Thread dress and there were no stockists in Scotland. The soonest I could get down to London to try one was the August beforehand and I was worried that I’d be cutting it fine if I left it that long so I ordered it online and it fitted fine!
Tell us about the ceremony...
We decided very early on that we wanted a humanist ceremony and it was fantastic. We had 3 readings, one from one of Craig’s childhood friends, one from one of my childhood friends and then Craig’s 2 sisters did a joint one. The ceremony was wonderful and really personal.
What was the worst wedding planning moment?
Our original humanist cancelling! At the time, it was very stressful but we managed to find Evelyn at Fuze Ceremonies who we actually had on the day and she was totally brilliant and we still speak now so every cloud and all that!
Who was your favourite wedding supplier?
Our wedding photographer – Casey Avenue. Hannah is not only an amazing photographer but also an all-round fantastic woman. All of our guests commented on our photographs, especially the evening ones on the dancefloor! They are amazing. On the morning of the wedding, my dress zip kept jamming and I ended up 15 minutes late for the ceremony. With me, 4 bridesmaids, both mum’s and my Makeup Artist totally flapping to get my dress on, Hannah got soap from the bathroom and ran it up and down the zip to finally get it on. She literally saved the day!
Did you make any wedding DIYs?
Our venue was a DIY venue so everything was DIY! We got married on the Saturday and had the whole Thursday and Friday to set up. We did absolutely everything which I think made it even more special. One of my bridesmaids had her Gran and her Gran’s friend knit us pom-poms to hang on the trees and bushes and it’s something that a lot of people commented on and took photos with so I’m glad we did so many little touches ourselves.
Where did you find all of your inspiration?
Pinterest! I had a board for everything – cake, décor, flowers, food. Pinterest is the best place ever for inspo!
What food did you have at your wedding?
We decided to have a BBQ on the day instead of a sit down meal. We had quite a few people who were coeliac, vegetarian and vegan and decided rather than having so many different meals with different options for everyone, we could just have a BBQ and everyone could grab whatever they wanted.
Top money saving tip:
Don’t go crazy. I know it sounds boring, there are so many extra’s you can get but at the end of the day – as long as there’s good food and good music, your guests will have a great time.
Funniest wedding photograph...
There’s a photo of the two of us trying to walk through some grass which was a bit soggy – we are both trying to carry my dress to stop it getting soaking and there’s some cows in the field behind us. It always makes us smile.
What was your first dance song?
Miley Cyrus – When I Look At You. We had a few songs in mind and actually didn’t pick until quite near the time. We had a couple of other options but they were quite common First Dance Songs and we wanted something that not a lot of people would have heard so that if they ever heard it again in future, it would remind them of us and our wedding.
Tell us about your Honeymoon...
Our honeymoon was to the TRS Coral Hotel in Mexico for 2 weeks and it was an absolute dream. We went all-out and it was totally worth it – safe to say we’ll never have a holiday like that again!
