Nude undies and a strapless bra. A lot of wedding dresses are designed to be worn without a bra, but don't worry - they offer A LOT more support than you think. So while a nude strapless bra is ideal, don;t be surprised if your bridal stylist suggests you take it off. You should wear something comfortable that isn't too warm, it gets surprisingly hot trying on all those layers of dresses. Keep in mind that'll you'll be getting changed in and out of your own clothes, so your tighest pair of skinny jeans might not be a good idea.
You should style your hair how you plan to wear it on the wedding day and try to do your makeup in your bridal style as much as possible. If you feel like a bride walking in, the dresses will really shine!
What to take…
An open mind! Try on as much as possible, even if you don’t like how a dress looks on the hanger. Heels the same height as you plan on wearing for the wedding are a good idea too (although most bridal shops will have shoes you can borrow, these may not be your ideal style or height). If you’re wearing your grandma’s veil, or a special pair of shoes, or anything specific be sure to take that along too. If you have a special piece of jewellery you plan to wear on the day you should take, or wear, that too.
Some photos from Pinterest might be helpful for inspiration but if you don’t have an idea of what you want then that’s okay too. Have a little think about what styles you might like to try first, we love these helpful guides on shape and necklines. It's much easier to communicate your vision if you take a little bit of time to learn the dress lingo first.

Who to take…
A lot of brides take their entire bride squad as it’s such an exciting day, but you should bear in mind that too many opinions might dampen the experience. The opinions of your loved ones are important, but at the end of the day it’s YOUR wedding dress and the only person who has to love it is YOU. We would recommend taking 2-4 people along with you, perhaps your maid of honour and your mum. Don’t feel like you have to invite all of your bridesmaids or your mother-in-law in case they feel left out. Plus, you want the dress to be a surprise for some people on the day. You could incorporate a dress reveal moment with your bridesmaids on the day!
Try not to take too many photos in the dresses, some boutiques don’t allow any photos, as you don’t want to scrutinise them too much. Also remember, your friend’s iPhone photo in a badly lit changing room is not the same as your professional photographs on the day where your dress will come to life.
P.S. if you want to take your fiancé or your dad with you, go for it! You do you. There are no rules when it comes to wedding planning, just do what’s right for you.
Finally, below we recommend some affordable wedding dress shops that don’t compromise on quality. If your budget is tight, you should keep an eye on local wedding boutiques for sample sales and discount days.
