After their August 2020 wedding date at the Baltic was postponed until May 2021, Olivia and Mark decided to do something special to mark the year they were supposed to become Mr and Mrs. We are delighted to share their absolutely gorgeous sunrise photoshoot! Olivia tells us all about it, their dreamy proposal and the plans for their upcoming wedding...
Why did you decide to have a pre-wedding shoot?
We were originally due to get married on 14th August 2020. Unfortunately, due to coronavirus, our wedding had to be postponed until May 2021. Our amazing wedding photographer Pete dreamt up an amazing idea to mark the year of our missed wedding with a sunrise photoshoot on the iconic Tyne Bridge in Newcastle overlooking our wedding venue. It was such an amazing experience and we are so pleased with how the pictures turned out. It’s something we can look back on in years to come!
How did you meet?
We met in late 2014 through friends and have been together almost 6 years!
Tell us about the proposal...
My birthday is just after Christmas, so Mark booked me a trip to Reykjavik in Iceland for the January. When we arrived it was beautiful snowy weather, like a winter wonderland! He had planned the whole trip, we headed out one day on an excursion which took us to Skogafoss Waterfall. We went to get a photograph next to the waterfall and next thing I know Mark is down on one knee in front of the waterfall and the watching crowd. It was a total shock and absolutely magical! He managed to get the whole thing filmed too. When we got back to the hotel he had flowers, cake and champagne waiting!
Why did you choose the shoot location?
The shoot location on the Tyne Bridge was to mark our postponed wedding. We are getting married at the Baltic Art Gallery which is in central Newcastle, and can be seen from the Tyne Bridge. We thought it would be a lovely way to nod to the venue and mark the occasion.
Did your photographer give you any tips before the shoot?
Pete makes you feel so at ease, he encourages laughter by getting you to tell little stories, jokes or embarrassing stories about each other!
Did you feel nervous behind the camera?
No, we absolutely loved it, Pete is amazing at making you laugh and capturing the real raw emotions and love between you both!
Were there any stand out moments in the shoot?
It has to be watching the sunrise together overlooking what will be our wedding venue. It was so special.
What advice would you give to other couples who do plan to have a pre-wedding shoot?
Enjoy it and have fun, these memories are priceless and you can look back on them for years to come!
Which photo is your favourite from the shoot?
I think it’s got to be the one of Mark twirling me round in the middle of the Tyne Bridge at sunrise. Or the one of us laughing at each other running down the bridge holding hands. It really captures our true emotions of how much we love each other!
Tell us about your wedding plans...
Our wedding is in the most fabulous art gallery overlooking the River Tyne. The wedding breakfast is taking place on the rooftop restaurant which has amazing views! The theme is white, blush and contemporary with a little added sparkle!
What are you most looking forward to about the wedding date?
Being able to get married and share our special day in front of our amazing family and friends! We have looked forward to the day for so long, but more importantly, we are just so excited to be married and spend the rest of our lives together!
What has been your favourite part of wedding planning so far?
Just being able to share this experience together, it has been totally special. And although coronavirus delayed our wedding, it has given us the opportunity to take part in this amazing photoshoot, which can look back on in years to come and remember this strange year!
Did you find the shoot helpful for helping you feel more prepared for the wedding day?
Yes! I love being in front of the camera but Mark, who is definitely more shy, now feels better prepared for the wedding day pics!
