Lauren and Dean had a rustic colourful wedding day featuring a hand tying ceremony, tons of DIYs, garden games and amazing food. The bride wore a beautiful bespoke Emma Beaumont gown. However, the star of the show was arguably their gorgeous pup Matilda...
How did you meet each other?
We first met when we were 13 in the local park with friends. We used to hang out and walk my huge Newfoundland dog together. When we were 16/17 we dated for a while and reunited at 21 and eventually moved to London together.
Tell us about the proposal...
Dean organised a spontaneous trip to Venice, little did I know it was to pop the question! Just before getting on gondola we found a local wine shop in one of the back streets selling wine in 2L water bottles and we sat in quite spot sharing a bit from the bottle. The wine was incredible! This definitely helped calm Deans nerves and made me scream YES as soon as he got down on one knee on the gondola.
- Something Old – A ring my Grandma gave to me
- Something New – My dress
- Something Borrowed – My Grandma’s earrings, from a young age I have loved playing in her jewelry box
- Something Blue – A garter that a little blue bow
Music
- Song you walked down the aisle to – Ed Sheeren - Perfect (my youngest brother played it on his guitar)
- First dance - Jack Johnson - Better together
Most emotional moment of the day?
The ceremony, a mixture of nerves and excitement all hit at once when we first looked at each other. I would see he was trying to hold back the tears and so was I. I remember squeezing his hand so hard!
Tell us about the ceremony...
We had a local registrar ceremony at the venue. We decided to add hand tying to our ceremony as we liked the meaning and we could involve our maid of honor and best man.
Tell us all about your wedding theme...
We really wanted the day to be relaxed and all at one venue. It was also important to us to find a venue that had an outdoor license to get married. Once we picked the venue, I then started to put moodboards together. We wanted a summery wedding with loads of different colours rather than one colour scheme.
Who was your bride and groom squad?
Dean had both my brothers and his closet friends. I had my two sisters and Dean’s sister as well as two friends plus I had another friend as an unofficial bridesmaid, she was amazing at keeping me calm and organised on the day and also kept my lipstick topped up!
Is there anything you wish you'd done differently?
Have more bridesmaids, as you can’t have too many!
What was your wedding budget – and did you stick to it?
We didn’t really have one, as we didn’t know how much everything costed! But we spent more than what we thought we would. We just tried keeping cost down by doing loads ourselves and working with our suppliers to find cheaper but just as nice alternatives! Don’t be afraid to ask them.
Top money saving tip:
Shop around. Don’t be afraid to ask companies that don’t normally work weddings. We got a great deal on our evening food. The company normal just provides pizza outside a local pub and little local events. He was great and the pizza was amazing! It costed us half the price of our other quotes!
Advice for future brides...
Enjoy wedding planning! Have everything you and your partner want, it’s your day and not anyone else’s. Don’t panic about little things as on the day it really doesn’t matter. Guests were my biggest stress and creating the table plans. On the day everything went perfect apart from all my table plans were wrong. We were having the best day, we really didn’t care where people sat in the end!
Did you make any Wedding DIYs?
We picked this venue as it was 100% DIY venue. We got given the keys on the Friday morning and handed them over Sunday evening. My favorite part of setting up on the Friday was going to flowers of Hatch, a small field near Hatch farm where you can pick a few grown flowers and wildflowers and pay per bucket. Close friends and family helped picked the flowers and arrange in little glass bottles and vases.
Tell us about the food...
We got recommended a caterer in the local area that really has a passion for seasonal local food. We loved this and knew they were right for us. Dean and most of his family are vegetarian so we wanted to make sure all sharing pates and starters were veggie. We told our caterers we love sharing food when we eat out and we love to Lebanese food. They built a menu around this and it was amazing! However, Dean and I have very different taste when it comes to deserts, so we had a trio! I would say it's Mediterranean based influenced by Lebanese and Italian with a British twist.

Where did you find all of your inspiration?
Pinterest and Instagram, it’s a dangerous rabbit hole! I would love to design another wedding as I have so many ideas!
Tell us all about the dress...
The one thing I originally dreaded was choosing a wedding dress. I went to Chester with my family and friends and tried on loads of dresses of all different shapes and styles. I also went to many London designers and boutiques on my own I found it easier. I couldn’t find anything I loved. But I had seen dresses from Emma Beaumont on Pinterest and saw she was in Knutsford not far from my family. I had my first consultation with her, and she sketched up my dream dress. The next appointment I tried on a toile and we spoke about fabrics. A few appointments later my dream dress was made. I loved the process of picking the fabrics, having a say on the details and generally having a dress made for me.
Best wedding splurge: my dress eeek!
Favourite wedding purchase: My dress… can you tell I loved my dress!
Wedding must-have: Garden games, it was great to see everyone make friends and enjoy themselves while we had our photo’s taken. However, me and Dean ran out of time on the day as we missed out on the garden games.
Tell us about your first dance - did you practice or wing it?
Wing it! We did practice our wedding kiss though! As we didn’t want it to be too much or not enough.
Were there any surprises on the day?
Dean and his best man came to drop me off an Expresso Martini in the morning of our wedding! I also surprised him with an engraved a pocket watch.
Who was your favourite wedding supplier?
I cannot pick one! But our wedding caterers Vaughan’s kitchen went above and beyond on the wedding day ensuring our day ran smoothly! And our wedding photographers The Wild Bride made us all feel so relaxed and fitted in perfectly. We could not fault any of our suppliers!
Tell us about the cake...
We didn’t want to spend that much money on the wedding cake as we wanted to use our money for other things. Therefore, we went to a local bakery in the area and ordered a naked three tier Vitoria sponge cake. As I wanted to be hands on, in the morning of the wedding me and a friend decorated the cake with fresh berries and we had the left overs for our prosecco garnish!
Tell us about your Honeymoon...
We haven't gone yet, fingers crossed it still goes ahead in November! We have planned to go travelling around Australia and relaxed in Bali.
