You might recognise Aimée and Adam from our Lockdown Love post after they had to postpone their May 2020 wedding date. Their wedding day will now take place on 7th August 2021 at Rookesbury Park, Wickham. Read all about their bright and beautiful engagement shoot in a sunflower field - it's impossible to look at these photos without smiling!
How did you meet and how long have you been together?
We’ve been together 6 years this year, it will be almost 7 by the time we get married! We met in a bar in Farnham not long after I moved down South for work. It was a bit of a case of mistaken identity - my friend thought she knew Adam’s friend so called him over, and Adam and I got talking whilst they were sorting it out!
Tell us your proposal story...
We’d chatted about getting married for a while and I’d always said I wanted to get engaged somewhere that meant something to us as a couple! Adam told me to keep the weekend free and (unbeknownst to me) had planned to drive us over to Newlands Corner (a gorgeous beauty spot in Surrey) where we used to go walking every sunny weekend! Unfortunately on this particular Saturday it was due to rain. I’m not a massive fan of the outdoors anyway and definitely a bit of a brat if it rains and Adam knew there was a chance I’d refuse to get out of the car if it was raining haha. So he went to plan B! He took us to Bishops Waltham, which was the first place we lived together. I have such special memories of us walking down the cute little high street and exploring the church grounds and walks around there. He suggested we go for a little walk and then get a coffee, but as we walked through the church yard he got down on one knee, made the loveliest little speech and asked me to marry him! I obviously burst into tears and said OF COURSE! We called our parents and then went to celebrate on the waterside in Ocean Village and had a nice dinner in the evening! It was absolutely special to the two of us as a couple and could not have been more perfect!
How did you choose the shoot location?
I saw some beautiful photographs our photographer had taken of another couple in the sunflower field the year before and absolutely LOVED them! I messaged her the day we got engaged and we had a long chat about how beautiful the photos were and how much we both love sunflowers! It was an absolute no-brainer.
Why did you decide to have a pre-wedding shoot?
We’ve never really had any professional photos taken of us and were a bit nervous about our wedding photos!
Which photo is your favourite from the shoot?
It’s hard to choose! But I think my favourite is the one where he’s kissing me on the forehead because it’s something he does a lot which just makes me melt – you can see it in the smile on my face!
Did you find the shoot helpful for helping you feel more prepared for the wedding day?
Definitely. We ended up having another mini session in a poppy field (again I couldn’t resist after seeing photos on Vicki’s Instagram!) and they’ve both really helped us feel more relaxed having our photos taken.
Did you feel nervous behind the camera?
I’m fine with a selfie and a snapchat filter haha! I never really feel like I like photos of me taken by other people but am getting better!
Would you recommend that other couples have an engagement shoot?
I think it’s a great way to ease nerves about having your photo taken but also - how lovely is it to have adorable photos of you and your fiancé?! We have ours blown up and on the wall in our house and they make me smile every time I see them!
Did your photographer give you any tips before the shoot?
Not tips as such, just told us to be our silly selves!
What advice would you give to other couples who do plan to have a pre-wedding shoot?
Do it exactly how you want to! Wear whatever you feel comfortable in (I wore a dress and heels into a field – not ideal but I love how it looks in the photos!), be silly, chat and laugh with each other and the photos will be lovely!
Do you plan to incorporate any of the photos into your wedding?
We included one of our photos on the back of our evening invites and plan to use one again on our ‘change the date’ cards!
