Amelia and Tom got married at their local church, followed by a gorgeous English country garden reception at their family home. The bride aka calligrapher Millie Stone UK designed all of the gorgeous stationery and signage. We love everything about this wedding, from the beautiful boho bouquet to Amelia's Sassi Holford dress to the cool Moroccan inspired chill out zone and the lovely rustic cake. How did you meet each other?
Tom and I actually met on Tinder! Our parents knew each other because of living in the same county so I had heard of him before, but we had both moved away. Tom moved back from London and I was online when I was at my parents’ house a few villages away and I got a message through on the app saying ‘Do I know you?!’
What was your wedding budget – and did you stick to it?
It was so difficult to come up with a budget without knowing rough costs of things like marquees and food. We wanted to have our wedding in my parents’ field in order to cut costs. After receiving the quotes, we realised that we needed to double our budget but it was definitely worth it! Luckily we had lots of help from our kind family.
Did you have have anything unusual at your wedding?
Our wedding car was a bit different; we had an old rusty Jeep to drive from the church to our reception venue. I’m surprised it didn’t break down!
Tell us about the dress...
I went to a few different wedding dress shops with my mum, aunty and gran. I fell in love with a few dresses at Sassi Holford in London after trying on what felt like hundreds; both were boho with lots of lace. They have an incredible wedding dress showroom and such helpful staff.
Did you make any wedding DIYs?
I did all of my own wedding stationery (table plan, place cards, table numbers and signage) as then I was at the point of starting up my own wedding stationery business. My style has developed a lot since then, but was the biggest project I had done thus far, with 180 guests.
How did you celebrate your hen do?
For my hen do, I booked a large self catering house in Norfolk with about 16 friends. It was close to the beach, a pub, and had a great hot tub. We were so lucky with the weather and had an incredible time. Lots of surprises were involved as I imagined and it was so nice to see lots of different groups of friends meet for the first time.
Were there any surprises on the day?
A great surprise was my sister and her boyfriend performing a couple of songs after the speeches. She is an amazing singer and her boyfriend is in a rather successful band; they performed ‘I Believe in a Thing Called Love’ (Lamar version) and an acoustic version of ‘7th Element’ by Vitas (a little joke we have in our family). It was amazing!
What was the most emotional moment of the day?
The thing I was most nervous about was crying from start to finish! Luckily the adrenaline set in and I held it together for most of the day. My Maid of Honour did an amazing speech after the wedding breakfast and that’s when the floodgates opened; my makeup artist (my sister-in-law) was sitting at our head table and was very concerned!
Tell us about the food...
We had delicious canapés during welcome drinks as our ‘starter’. For the main course we had paella with stuffed peppers and then a dessert trio and cheese table. We aimed for it all to be quite relaxed so the food was placed in the middle of the rectangular tables for guests to help themselves. In the evening we had a pizza and ice cream van.
What was your best wedding splurge?
We had a moroccan themed area in our marquee (because Tom and I had visited Morocco and loved it), which was recommended by our marquee people. It was really unique with rugs, festoon lights and low seating/day beds. It was a good area for guests to go for a bit of quiet!
What was your first dance song?
We actually went for two first dance songs; both upbeat and both very different. We chose Future Islands - Seasons for our first dance song, followed by I’m Shipping Up To Boston - Dropkick Murphys for a bit of a funny surprise for our guests. Everyone went wild!
Tell us about your Honeymoon...
We had planned to go travelling for one month in November for our honeymoon so we just went on a little trip to the South of France for one week immediately after the wedding. For our travelling honeymoon in November, we visited India, Sri Lanka and Borneo which was amazing; Sri Lanka in particular!
