Things to Do on Your Would Be Wedding Date

Friday, June 5, 2020

Your original wedding date will always be very special to you and your partner. Even if that date will no longer be the date you exchange your rings, read your vows and say 'I Do'. For myself (Tiffany) and my fiance, we had booked our wedding for the date of our anniversary; 19th September. The day we exchanged vows would have been our 5 year anniversary, so we definitely plan on making the day something to remember.

Lots of brides and grooms, who have sadly made the decision to postpone, are now trying to think of ways to signify the date... which is why we have put this post together, to give you all a ton of inspiration, and get you excited for that date again! If you do decide to use any of the below ideas, please do share your stories and photos with us, we would love to see them - tag us on Instagram @frombrideswithlove

Get dressed up all fancy!
If it were the wedding morning, you'd be getting ready separately and have that grand reveal as you meet at the end of aisle, so why not spend the morning getting all dolled up separately, and meet for a nice breakfast date? Boys, put on that suit you haven't worn for a while! Ladies, pop on that dress that was meant for your hen do. Style your hair all pretty, and maybe even put on that lipstick that you haven't used for a while.

Breakfast date!
Croissants, Pastries, Nutella, Fruit... make it fancy! Or if you prefer, opt for a full English (YUM!). Start the day right with your fave breakfast together, you could even add a little tipple, you are celebrating after all! Bucks fizz anyone?
Start as you mean to go on as they say...

Cards and Gifts
A few have suggested writing each other a card and giving a little gift, as this was the plan for their real wedding mornings. You could give the groom his personalised socks and boxers that he should've been wearing, and you can both have a little laugh.
Writing a card is a lovely idea, and a way for you both to get down on paper your feelings and how excited you are for the when the wedding finally comes around.

Here are some our our favourite small business for cards;
Amyverse: handmade from 100% recycled materials - 10% off cards on Etsy
We Talk Weddings: 15% off for the month of June on the website using code 'FBWLOVE'
RLS Illustrations: lovely personalised cards - 10% off cards on Etsy with code FROMBRIDESWITHLOVE
cards left to right: We Talk Weddings, Amyverse + RLS Illustrations
Write Funny Vows
Make each other laugh! Here are some of our favourites;

"I promise never to watch the next episode on Netflix without you, no matter how much I want too"

"I promise to still love you even when we're constructing IKEA furniture"

"I promise to get up and get the remote from across the room, even if it wasn't me who placed the remote so far away"

Decorations Galore
Put some of the decorations you have purchased to good use, before they're packed away awaiting your new wedding date. Light your candles, dust off your vases, and buy some pretty flowers while out on your weekly shop. You could also; set up a sweetheart table for the two of you to enjoy a lovely meal, make some DIY stationary (cute itinerary of the day, or a menu for your meal), Hang some banners, and of course Sprinkle some confetti.

Culinary skills at the ready...
Have a go at making your wedding breakfast! One of you could prepare the Main Course, and the other the Starter and Dessert.
If your wedding menu options are a bit too difficult, maybe surprise each other with the meal options instead?
You could even vote on your favourite dish, and the loser has to do the dishes! (the next day though, because who wants to do dishes on their wedding day!?)

Have an at home picnic/afternoon tea
We absolutely LOVE this idea! Lauren did exactly this for their anniversary and it was absolutely stunning.
Make or order in some afternoon tea goodies; sandwiches, cakes and some scones. Set up an area of your home all cosy, and enjoy your little indoor picnic.

Life is short, eat the cake!
There is no doubt about it, your would be wedding day wouldn't be complete without cake.. any excuse!
Why not arrange a delivery, or socially distanced collection of goodies from your wedding baker? Whether this be a cake, or some cupcakes.
Alternatively, if you're up for the challenge, you could attempt to bake your own wedding cake together. We would love to see some pictures if you do decide to try this.
Who thinks they could bake up a 3 tier cake? I definitely couldn't, that's for sure!

Video call your family and Friends
Zoom, Facetime, Facebook, Skype; there are lots of different ways to contact your loved ones from the comfort of your own home. Hosting a 'Webcam Wedding', and having a little homemade ceremony for your family and friends to witness, or having them there to virtually witness your cake cutting and first dance.
Or if you would prefer to spend the day in only each others company instead, maybe you could invite your nearest and dearest to a virtual wedding reception instead?

Party the night away
Get on your dancing shoes, pop some bubbly, and party the night away!
- Play your evening reception playlist and have a boogie.
- If cocktails take your fancy, while out on your weekly shop get all the bits you need to make your fave cocktails from home. Here are loads of different recipes to choose from; https://www.socialandcocktail.co.uk/top-100-cocktails/
- Drinking games; Drunk Jenga: whoever collapses the tower has to take a drink, Never Have I Ever (wedding edition): drink if you 'have never', Bride and Groom Trivia: ask each other questions about yourself/relationship and whenever someone gets an answer wrong, they drink.

Games night (the non-drinking kind)
I love a good games night, whether it be just my Fiance and I, or a bunch of friends. It's always such a good laugh.
If it's just the two of you, some of our favourites are Dobble, an Escape Room board game, or a print at home Personalised Monopoly.

.

If you're playing over zoom with a group of friends, then you have to try out Jackbox Games. There are so many different game options, you're guaranteed to find something that everyone enjoys. We can assure you, you'll be playing and laughing all night long

Cosy night in
You just can't beat a night spend cosied up on the sofa with your love, favourite snacks to hand, ready to binge Netflix.
Order in your favourite takeaway for dinner.
Have a movie marathon! All of the Marvel series, Harry potter, or if you fancied keeping onto the wedding theme, here are some of our go to options;
- Bridesmaids
- 27 Dresses
- Made of Honour
- My Big Fat Greek Wedding
- Bride Wars
You could even up the ante, and build a fort in your living room... Blankets galore, cushions, fairy lights; how romantic!

Lastly, if by the time your would be wedding comes around and the restrictions have eased, you could...
- Have a pre wedding/engagement shoot with your photographer
- Have some family/friends over for dinner
- Go out for a meal at your favourite restaurant
- Book a night away at a hotel, or maybe even a Spa, and spend some quality time together

We are sending all of our love and well wishes to all couples who have taken the decision to postpone, and we hope you all have the best day ever celebrating your would be wedding day.

From Brides, with Love xx
