Mr and Mrs Walls are getting married at Carlton Towers on 22nd May 2021, they sadly had to postpone their original date of 30th May 2020 - you might recognise them from Lockdown Love: Part 2. Bride to be Cat shares their stunning fairytale engagement shoot with us...
Why did you decide to have a pre-wedding shoot?
We wanted some nice engagement pictures of us and it was a great opportunity to meet our photographer for the first and get to know her and practice some poses! It’s quite common in Asian weddings now to have a pre-wedding shoot and to display the photos taken at the wedding for guests to see. They usually dress up in wedding dresses but we decided to not go that far!
How did you meet and how long have you been together?
Tell us about the proposal...
We got engaged on Christmas Eve 2018! I hadn’t been feeling very well on the run up to Christmas and it was my last day at work before the Christmas break. As it was a half day I decided I could manage it and decided to go to work however around 10am my manager told me I was clearly too sick to be there and sent me home. I came home early and actually walked in whilst Nathan was still setting up for the proposal! There were candles and flowers lining the staircase, he was dressed in a suit and was acting very suspicious and told me to wait upstairs for a few minutes. When I was allowed to come back downstairs, he handed me a card which had a riddle/clue on it, I tried to follow them but as I wasn’t feeling well I found it difficult to understand the clues and really struggled with some of them! The clues were hidden all around the house and when I got to the final clue I had to reread all the clues to reveal a hidden message, it turned out the first letter of each sentence spelled out ‘Will you Marry me?’. Nathan got down on one knee and I don’t remember much of what he said as I was crying so much but it was perfect.
How did you choose the shoot location?
I’ve always wanted to go to a Lavender field and we thought the colours would be perfect for a light, airy and summery photoshoot.
What is your favourite photo from the shoot?
I like the natural ones of us just walking through the field, not posed or forced just us in action.
Did you find the shoot helpful for helping you feel more prepared for the wedding day?
It definitely helped us meet our wedding photographer before hand and to see her work before the big day too. It made us feel more comfortable and have more faith in what we’re paying for.
Did you feel nervous behind the camera?
Yes! It felt a bit uncomfortable at first and I’m not used to posing in front of a camera that isn’t me taking a selfie!
Would you recommend that other couples have an engagement shoot?
Yes definitely, although not necessary it was nice to have the memories and we now have beautiful pictures of us to cherish.
Did your photographer give you any tips before the shoot?
She gave us advice on footwear as she had been to the location before and was familiar with the good locations on site.
What advice would you give to other couples who do plan to have a pre-wedding shoot?
Relax when having the photo shoot, it’s a bit of fun and try not to feel so awkward. Also be yourselves in it and if you’re aiming for a certain style of shoot be prepared. Watch out for the location and weather too, it was boiling when we did it and we were all sweating, then about an hour later it chucked it down so we were lucky with the timings.
Were there any stand out moments in the shoot?
I remember lots of bees and flies being stuck inside the tulle of my dress, apparently they really like it and my photographer said that it’s very common on wedding days to find them inside the material of your dress!
Do you plan to incorporate any of the photos into your wedding?
Yes we got a photo book made with our favourite pictures from the shoot and we plan on having it on display at the wedding.
